Albania Eases Stand on Confiscated Property

TIRANA, Albania — A hunger strike by more than 150 Albanians demanding compensation for property confiscated by the former communist regime ended Friday, the government said.
A government statement issued after a five-hour meeting between Prime Minister Aleksander Meksi and representatives of the hunger strikers said agreement had been reached on questions of compensation.
“After the meeting with the government the hunger strikers stopped the strike and went home,” police spokesman Bedri Dani in the northern town of Kukesi said.
