Joblessness Continues to Dog European Recovery: New forecasts by the European Union project that unemployment--already at a record high 10.9%--will climb to 11.7% before year’s end, even as the Continent’s economies emerge from recession. Economic Affairs Commissioner Henning Christophersen said the data underscores the importance of such proposed reforms as deregulating labor markets, shrinking social security systems, slicing budget deficits across Europe and boosting public works spending.
