Top Cartoonists Win Salute from Peers

The National Cartoonist Society presented its 48th annual Reuben Awards in LaJolla Saturday night.
Veteran comic-strip creators Charles Schulz (“Peanuts”) and Mort Walker (“Beetle Bailey”) presented Jim Borgman of the Cincinnati Enquirer with the group’s top honor, outstanding cartoonist of the year.
Also honored were: Bud Grace (“Ernie”), in the newspaper comic strip division; Bill Rechin (“Out of Bounds”), newspaper panel; George Booth, gag cartoon; Bill Schorr (Kansas City Star), editorial cartoon; Drew Litton (Rocky Mountain News), sports cartoon; Mark Chiarello, comic book.
Other Reuben winners were Tim Burton, animation; Hal Mayforth, magazine and book illustration; Edward Sorel, advertising illustration; and W.B. Park, greeting card.
