“Finding the dog park was a godsend. Gaia loves it here. She’s hyper and needs a big place to run. I can sit here and enjoy the sun. You see different dogs that you’ve never seen before. Also, if you like animals but can’t have one it’s a great place to come because you can play with the dogs.”

The dog park was created after Clyde Cicotte received a $267 ticket for having his dog off-leash. He founded the Long Beach Dog Park Committee and the park opened last year. Cicotte says there have been some pet-owner romances as well as several marriages. “Pretty soon their dogs are in love and so are they,” he says.
The dog park is located off 7th Street at Federation Drive in Recreation Park near the fly fishing casting pond. It is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
