Police investigating a suspected check forgery case Wednesday found a corpse in a Montclair back yard and said it could be tied to the disappearance six months ago of a 68-year-old man.
Montclair police Lt. Kevin Piper said the decomposing body was found by detectives who were looking into suspicious checks that had been cashed in the name of John Sullivan, a Montclair man who lives in the 9800 block of Saratoga Avenue.
Piper said detectives found the house empty, but investigation prompted them to excavate the back yard, where they found the remains of a dog and a male corpse.
Sullivan’s two adult sons also live in the house, Piper said. The investigation is continuing, he said.
