* * Tom Scott, “Reed My Lips,” GRP. Scott’s back to his pop tricks. After some well-crafted jazz playing on his last album, the busy saxophonist has returned to the commercial wars. Scott brings skill and imagination to the jazz-pop genre, but this production has little room for creative stretching. One track stands out: On “Saxapella” Scott’s overdubbed horns produce a colorful, funk-tinged saxophone version of a street corner a cappella jam. Would that the rest of the album possessed the same spirited energies. Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good, recommended), four stars (excellent).
