White House Panel Calls for Less Labor-Management Hostility: Stagnant wages, global competition, polarized incomes and high unemployment for the unskilled are creating a crisis that requires major changes in labor policy, according to findings of the 10-member Commission on the Future of Worker-Management Relations. The current stalemate “holds back innovation and efficiency,” said panel member and professor Thomas Kochan. The panel, which includes three former secretaries of labor, executives and union leaders, was asked by President Clinton to suggest ways for workers and managment to share power in running companies. The panel’s findings were reported today in The New York Times and will be officially released later this week.
