PORT HUENEME : Residents Warned of AIDS Charity Scam
- Share via
A man walking door to door in Port Hueneme claiming to be collecting money for children suffering from AIDS is actually running a scam, police said Thursday.
Over the past week, police have been investigating reports of a man who has collected money from Port Hueneme residents after he said he was representing a charity called California Christian Community Services.
The charity apparently does not exist, according to Port Hueneme Police Detective Ken Dobbe. The information that the man gave to residents included a false phone number and address.
“We want the public to be aware that this is going on as a warning to them, and so they can notify us if he makes another appearance,” Dobbe said.
Dobbe advised that people who are contacted by someone claiming to be from the charity should call the police at 986-6530.
