Prosecutor Named as Chief of Investigators

A prosecutor who worked more than a decade as a police officer has been appointed chief of investigators for the Ventura County district attorney’s office, authorities announced this week.
Jeff G. Bennett, 38, is currently assigned to the major fraud unit. He joined the district attorney’s office in January, 1989, as a deputy prosecutor assigned to misdemeanor cases.
He began his career in law enforcement as a sheriff’s deputy in Sacramento County in 1978. There, he worked patrol and later directed a specialized narcotics unit.
In 1981, he joined the University of California Police in Santa Barbara, where he worked until 1989. He received a juris doctorate from the Santa Barbara College of Law a year before leaving the UC police force.
