All Work, No Play?

I couldn’t help but wonder after reading your article, “A Little Play, a Little Work” (May 29) if the women depicted in the piece could ever learn how to relax. If you can’t let go in the Virgin Islands I doubt if you can anywhere.
Several years ago, eight of us chartered a 50-foot sailboat and sailed the British Virgin Islands, spending several days in St. Thomas. I never wanted a fax machine or portable phone. I could think of nothing so important that I would need to be bothered. If my house burned down, my business partner absconded with all the funds or my children got sick, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. It seemed to me that these women have not learned that the world will go on without you and vacations should be to relax and forget about the pressures of back home.

I have a simple question for these women: Why leave home at all?
