The first South Bay family to get a home through the nonprofit group Habitat for Humanity will see construction of its house start this week.
The organization chose Gabriel and Maria Ceja of Carson from more than 100 applicants. Through Habitat, the family will spend 500 hours working with volunteers to build the house and will take classes on home maintenance and budgeting.
The monthly payments they make will go into a general fund to help build more houses for needy people in Carson.
The groundbreaking ceremony is set for today at 11:30 a.m.
