Paramount Shareholders OK Takeover by Viacom: The $10-billion merger moved to the final stages after stockholders, as expected, approved the deal. Viacom will hold a similar meeting for shareholders to approve the merger today in New York. In March, Viacom completed the cash portion of the deal and took control of Paramount. Paramount owns a film studio, Simon & Schuster publishing, Madison Square Garden and two New York sports teams. Viacom owns MTV, Showtime and Nickelodeon and other cable networks.
