Among the Rose Bowl crowd of 83,716 was Vice President Al Gore, whose presence was never announced.
Also in attendance was Bulgaria’s President Zhelyu Zhelev.
Security was increased--which was previously not thought possible--leading into the stadium. Bags, camera cases and cellular phones were searched, causing some to miss the kickoff.
