No Record for 9.96 in 99.96 Meters

Tim Montgomery’s junior world record of 9.96 seconds in the 100 meters, set in Odessa, Tex., in May, will not count after all.
The U.S. Track and Field federation is withdrawing the time for certification by the International Amateur Athletic Federation after learning it came on a track four centimeters short.
The record, subject to IAAF ratification, will be 10.08, set by Obadele Thompson of Barbados in El Paso in April.
The 100-meter final in the IAAF World Junior Championships in Lisbon will be run today.
