DANA POINT : Election Month to Shift to November

The City Council agreed last week to permanently shift the city’s election to November to coincide with state’s general election.
The move means that the next city election would be held in November, 1996, and then every two years.
The switch from city elections in June that corresponded with the state primary will add five months to each council member’s four-year term, according to City Clerk Sharon L. Waits.
The change was recommended by the city attorney in part because of low voter turnout in June elections.
Dana Point was the only South County city that didn’t hold its election in November, Waits said.
The City Council is scheduled to vote Aug. 9 on an ordinance that spells out the switch to November elections.
