County Jobless Rate Rises to 7.3% in June

Ventura County’s jobless rate, which had been declining steadily for nearly a year, took an upswing in June, rising to 7.3% from 6.5% in May.
Much of the rise can be attributed to the loss of more than 3,000 agricultural jobs, officials say. The bulk of that, they add, is in strawberry harvesting and processing. On the plus side, 400 construction jobs were added in June.
The upturn in the unemployment figure came after the rate in the county registered a three-year low in May.
The jobless rate exceeded 10% as recently as July, 1993.
