Preparing for Disasters Is Meeting Topic

NEWPORT BEACH — A city fire captain will discuss preparing for earthquakes and other natural disasters at Wednesday’s meeting of Speak Up Newport.
Capt. Craig Chastain will also explain how neighborhoods can work together during disasters by forming community emergency response teams.
“Most people think that all you have to do in a disaster is call the Fire Department,” said Mary Reuland, secretary of Speak Up Newport. “But they are not going to be able to do that if we are hit really hard. People need to learn how to take care of themselves.”
Chastain’s talk will be at 6:15 p.m. at the Villa Nova Restaurant, 3131 W. Coast Highway.
