Scott Paper Co. Unveils Deeper Job Cuts: The company said it will cut deeper and quicker into its payroll than originally planned, laying off a third of its work force--10,500 people--worldwide by year’s end as part of its restructuring efforts. An original restructuring plan called for cutting 8,300 workers within two to three years. The layoffs, which will trim Scott’s payroll to 24,000, will affect 20% of hourly production workers and half of those on weekly salaries. A third of the layoffs will target Americans, the company said. The rest will be spread across Scott facilities in 20 other countries.
