A 17-year-old burglar got more than he bargained for when the resident of the Santa Paula home he tried to rob hit him over the head with a frying pan.
The youth entered the home on the 700 block of East Victoria Street about 8:50 p.m. Monday and had begun to take the VCR from the living room when the resident came out of a bedroom and confronted him, police said.
A struggle ensued in which the suspect, whose name was not released because of his age, stabbed the resident in the chest and caused minor injuries. The suspect was also slightly injured from skillet blows to the head, police said.
Santa Paula police arrived and heard a ruckus inside the house. Officers entered through a window and found the two people fighting in the living room.
The youth was arrested and treated for minor injuries at Santa Paula Hospital before being booked for burglary and attempted murder. The resident, whose name was not released because the suspect threatened to come back and injure him, was also treated for minor injuries at the hospital, police said.
