NEWPORT BEACH — A 43-year-old visitor from England drowned Wednesday when he fell off a boat docked at a marina in the Back Bay area, authorities said.
The man, whose name was withheld until family members could be notified, fell off the 32-foot vessel sometime after 3 p.m. It was tied to a slip at a marina at 300 E. Coast Highway, according to Lt. Jim Carson.
William Pannell, who lives on the boat, told police he pulled the man on board, Carson said.
An autopsy is scheduled this morning.
“It appears they were drinking,” Carson said, “although we won’t know the victim’s condition until we get the toxicology reports.”
