McDonnell Settles Pollution Suit: McDonnell Douglas Corp. agreed to install $600,000 in air-pollution-control technology at its Long Beach and Huntington Beach plants to settle a lawsuit brought by state authorities alleging that the company failed to warn the public about toxic emissions at the sites. Under the proposed settlement filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the St. Louis-based company also agreed to pay $125,000 in penalties and other costs, California Atty. Gen. Daniel E. Lungren said. The suit stemmed from Proposition 65, which requires companies to “provide a clear and reasonable warning” before potentially exposing the public to dangerous emissions, Lungren said.
