NEW DELHI — Indian customs officers seized more than 30,000 insects from the baggage of two departing Germans at New Delhi international airport, newspapers reported Friday.
Customs officials said the two were detained after a tip and were expected to be charged under a wildlife protection act.
Delhi’s Pioneer newspaper identified some of the insects as moths, grasshoppers and ants.
The Press Trust of India quoted the Germans as telling customs officials they needed the insects from the Himalayan mountains for research.
