NORTH HOLLYWOOD — A 64-year-old man was killed when he unexpectedly turned his bicycle into the path of two vehicles on a heavily traveled street, authorities said Wednesday.
Arthur Young of North Hollywood lived at a nearby convalescent home, said Los Angeles Police Officer Bill Mulvihill.
The accident occurred about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 6200 block of Vineland Avenue. Young, who was traveling south, abruptly wheeled his bicycle to the left, avoiding a car in the lane closest to the curb but steering into the path of a van in the fast lane, Mulvihill said.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Medical Center of North Hollywood, Mulvihill said.
The driver of the van was not cited. “There were two vehicles side by side. One saw him, the other didn’t,” Mulvihill said.
