More Oil-Water Mix Leaks Reported on Fullerton Street

FULLERTON — Residents of a mile-long stretch of State College Boulevard reported several leaks of an oil-water mixture from manhole covers Wednesday, a day after a similar spill in the same general area, between Chapman and Commonwealth avenues.
“It’s thick, it’s not just a light film,” said Walt Treadwell, who lives at State College and Commonwealth.
Treadwell said the pressure from the substance below the street pushed the manholes loose at three locations, sending what appeared to be hundreds of gallons into gutter areas.
Cleanup crews from the city of Fullerton, the Fullerton Fire Department, Unocal and Fullerton Waste Water were on the scene. A spokesman for the Fire Department said the cleanup was being handled by Unocal, but a corporate spokesman said the line from which the substance came did not belong to them.
