Senators Investigate Removal of Regulators

WASHINGTON — The two ranking members of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee opened an inquiry Wednesday into the removal of three S&L; regulators whose work triggered the Whitewater controversy.
Sens. Donald W. Riegle Jr. (D-Mich.) and Alfonse M. D’Amato (R-N.Y.) asked the Resolution Trust Corp., to explain why the three were placed on administrative leave.
