Ventura County prosecutors on Thursday charged a 32-year-old Port Hueneme man with fatally stabbing an employee at a convenience market during a botched robbery last week.
Adolfo Lopez Carrillo was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of killing Mohinder Bassi who worked at the B-Mart on East Pleasant Valley Road, authorities said.
Bassi, 42, of Canoga Park was stabbed several times in the chest and stomach about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 19. He then staggered next door to a bar where patrons called an ambulance. After Carrillo’s arrest, police said the stabbing happened during a failed robbery attempt.
Carrillo is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 9 in Municipal Court.
In addition to charging Carrillo with murder, prosecutors also filed allegations that he used a deadly weapon and inflicted great bodily injury.
Carrillo was being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
