PURPLE & ORANGE: City leaders in Orange wanted something a little splashier than the city seal to kick off their new business promotion campaign. After some 30 ideas hit the drawing board, they came up with fruit--an orange--with a bright purple ribbon around it, with the slogan: “Orange, They Built an Entire County Around Us.” Says Jane Owens of the city’s redevelopment agency: “We wanted to keep it very Orange-like.” The ribbon signifies the agency’s ability to help companies “tie up” their marketing programs.
UNITED THEY COME: You thought Ross Perot was taking a political rest? He’ll be in Orange County next month for what his United We Stand America people bill as a “pre-election rally.” It will be at the Sequoia Conference Center in Buena Park at 6 p.m. on Sept. 16. Rally coordinator Judy Duffy says Perot will talk about economic reform and health care. . . . Democrats, Republicans, and others on the November ballot here have been invited to set up booths and take their campaigns to Perot’s followers.
GHOULISH JOB: Without a pumpkin in sight, August is when Knott’s Berry Farm gears up for Halloween. On Monday the amusement park starts taking applications for a record-number 900 monsters, ghosts and goblins to work at its annual Halloween transformation called Knott’s Scary Farm. . . . The holiday theme look runs 12 nights this year, for the first time--weekends and Halloween night, beginning Oct. 7. You must be 18 or have a high school diploma to apply.
PIPING GOOD? City leaders in Seal Beach were all set to sign a 25-year extension for a Unocal pipeline until Councilwoman Gwen Forsythe questioned the language in its Section 2. It says the extension “is in the best interest of the city.” She asked her colleagues: “If the thing bursts and we all blow up, is that section still applicable?” . . . The environmentally minded council passed the extension, but deleted Section 2.
