The Los Angeles City Council took steps Friday that could end overtime payments to five of the Department of Water and Power’s highest-paid managers.
A proposed ordinance would give legal authority to a DWP board resolution approved in April to disqualify the managers from such pay.
In March, a report revealed that 468 managers who earn more than $70,000 a year each received an average of $4,600 in overtime payments in 1992. In contrast, employees who work in other city departments and have annual salaries of $55,000 apiece averaged about $745 in overtime compensation.
The DWP board voted to discontinue the overtime pay for two assistant general managers, the chief financial officer and two executive assistants to the general manager. They earn $114,000 to $150,000 a year.
