Highlights
Valencia senior running back Chris Draft--The Times Orange County back of the year--gained 1,338 yards and scored 24 touchdowns. The Tigers, however, fell short in their quest to win their third consecutive Southern Section Division VI championship. Valencia lost to league rival Savanna, 20-0, in the semifinals. Savanna defeated Whittier, 20-13, in the Division VI title game. The championship capped a remarkable turnaround for the Rebels under Coach Fred Di Palma. Savanna finished 3-6-1 and missed the playoffs in 1992. Senior quarterback Paul Waldrop led the county in passing efficiency during the regular season with a rating of 174.3. He completed 66% of his passes for 1,529 yards with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions. Western lost to Whittier, 24-12, in the semifinals of the Division VI playoffs. Pioneer senior quarterback Brandon Brennan (62.8%, 1,814 yards, 21 touchdowns, six interceptions) finished second in passing efficiency (174.2). Anaheim sophomore running back Reuben Droughns gained 2,039 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. He rushed for 361 yards and four touchdowns in the Colonists’ 34-32 upset of El Monte Arroyo in the opening round of the Division VI playoffs.
