A man and a woman were killed early Sunday when automatic rifle fire from the sidewalk riddled their passing car in a drug- and gang-infested area near Downtown Los Angeles, police said.
The victims, reportedly in their late 20s or early 30s, were riding in a car on Burlington Avenue in the Westlake district when the attack occurred about 2:40 a.m., police said.
They suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and their car crashed into a utility pole. Their identities were not immediately released. No one had been arrested in the shootings, said police, who knew of no motive in the killings.
