Rockwell Relocating Some Shuttle Work: The company plans to shift production of space shuttle modification parts from its Space Systems site in Downey to Palmdale, where Rockwell International modifies the orbiters for upcoming flights. Rockwell said the move will save $20 million a year in operating costs and that about 300 of its 3,550 jobs in Downey will be relocated. The number of jobs that might be eliminated in the shift is not yet known, but a spokesman estimated that about 50 positions might be lost.
