‘Love Channel’: It’ll Just Get Better

As producer of Poorman’s “The Love Channel,” I want to thank Randy Lewis for not ripping us apart in his review (“Poorman’s ‘Love Channel’ Needs to Censor the Sponsor-Kissing,” Aug. 31).
Basically, what he saw was a dress rehearsal, live on TV. Our first night was a first for many involved in the show, and at the end of the night, I thought it might be the last. I had much less kind things to say after the show than he did.
But the nice thing about doing a program five days a week is that you have a chance to redeem yourself the next day, and with the Baka Boyz on, I think we rebounded fantastically.
The first show was very cluttered and unorganized, which I almost expected. In response to the comment about our sponsorship--which can seem overloaded, but it pays the bills (almost)--we actually have only six minutes of taped spots compared to the usual 12, so we incorporate the rest into the show, making our advertisers feel they’re a part of the show.
Our whole idea for the program is to make it feel like it’s the people’s show--the only late-night, live show where viewers can interact with the people they’re watching, while also, at times, being informative and giving opportunities for unsigned bands and other acts.
I had to laugh about the part of Poorman surrounding himself with a competent crew because basically our staff includes me, who works 50 hours a week at my regular job at Fox TV, and a girl named Amber, who just went back to school and also works as a waitress.
So stay tuned, because you never know what can happen on live TV, and I think we have already gotten much better. But then after that first show, that’s not saying a hell of a lot.
