‘Fragile Ecologies’

Of all the exhibits at all the festivals, galleries and studios etc. in Laguna, there is only one that must be experienced by people who profess opinions about and concerns for our environment. That show is “Fragile Ecologies: Artists’ Interpretations and Solutions” at the Laguna Art Museum.

It seems to me that the protective-reactive attitudes of those of us concerned about the invasion of development have blocked our abilities to think creatively in making an evolving urban area somewhat compatible with, and mitigated by, our beautiful natural environment and the resources at hand.

One hopes that this stultified vision can be awakened somewhat by the “Fragile Ecologies” exhibition so that new possibilities may enter the thinking of the environmentally concerned. All the transformation that can be mustered, as well as resolve, are going to be needed.
