Rodeo Criticism
Thankfully, there was a drop in attendance for this year’s Ventura County Fair Rodeo. Perhaps, after years of protest by animal activists, the fundamental ethical premise that animals are not on this planet for our entertainment is reaching mainstream awareness.
Perhaps the day is near when we will view rodeo in much the same way that we regard dogfighting or cockfighting. Perhaps repugnant photographs such as the one depicting a dog with a small monkey on its back will be deemed unacceptable for family viewing. (After all, how do you coerce a wild animal to ride atop the back of a domestic animal?)
Perhaps the rodeo grandstand will soon be permanently empty.
