Philharmonic’s Tour

The Rams win! Front-page headline and picture (Sept. 5)! Hooray, this is really important stuff. However, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s triumphant opening to its three-week European tour was positioned at the bottom of the Calendar section on Aug. 29. I should be thankful it wasn’t buried in the Calendar section as was the report of the Philharmonic’s successful Switzerland tour.
The L.A. Philharmonic represents what is good about our city’s culture. It tells the world that Los Angeles is not just a place of violence, disasters and decline. Los Angeles is a place that supports a world-class ensemble, and appreciates culture, art and human expression. Perhaps this story is as important as a football game.
(I am a member of the L.A. Philharmonic. I am not currently on tour because of a tendon problem.)
