LOS ALAMITOS — Casa Youth Shelter last week received a $2,500 county grant to help support the shelter’s art therapy counseling program for troubled teen-agers.
Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder presented the check to Myldred Jones, who founded Casa Youth Shelter in 1978. It provides a residence for youths 12 to 17 who have run away from home or are having problems with their parents.
The shelter has served more than 7,000 youths and reunited 85% of them with their families. Wieder presented the check during the shelter’s annual fund-raiser at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
Save Our Youth, a nonprofit group that provides sports, fitness and recreational programs for teen-agers in Costa Mesa, also received $5,000 from the county’s social program grant.
