Royal came to Rancho Santiago last season with hopes of becoming a standout wide receiver but spent much of the season as a reserve. Over the summer, he moved to defensive back and showed instant talent. He moved into the starting lineup as a safety. Royal had his best game to date Saturday as the Dons upset Palomar, 31-14. He was in on 11 tackles and also recovered two fumbles. Royal returned one fumble 31 yards to set up an easy touchdown.
