Ex-Sen. Dixon Nominated to Head Base Closure Panel

WASHINGTON — President Clinton on Tuesday nominated former Sen. Alan J. Dixon (D-Ill.) to head the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission as it decides the next round of military base closings, a process expected to be economically painful for communities and politically difficult for the Administration the year before the 1996 election.
