COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Kentucky’s Coach Angered by Threat

Kentucky Coach Bill Curry said he escorted his wife and son out of town after a man phoned in a death threat against Carolyn Curry to the football office.

“He’s not even man enough to threaten me, but he can threaten my wife,” an angry Curry said after practice. “It’s indescribable.”

The FBI is investigating.

Carolyn Curry is a history professor at Kentucky.

Curry also declined to say exactly what the threat entailed.

“I never imagined anybody would stoop that low,” he said. “I’ve never been more angry or sick.”

Missouri Coach Larry Smith suspended senior fullback Michael Washington, junior tight end Vic Faust and freshman wide receiver Shad Criss for breaking team rules. Smith did not say what the players did, although their actions did not violate NCAA rules. . . . Oregon quarterback Danny O’Neil, who missed the USC game because of a staph infection on the ring finger of his passing hand, will not play at Washington State Saturday but is expected to be ready for California on Oct. 15.
