OUTLOOK
The Knights are in a rebuilding year under Watkins, their new coach. Coaching for the past eight years, Watkins spent his last two at Hacienda Heights Los Altos, where he took a small, inexperienced team to the quarterfinals of the playoffs last season. But a playoff berth might be hard to come by this season. The Knights are going to have a tough time upending Santa Ana Valley, Canyon and El Modena to grab that third position. “This team can play defense,” Watkins said, “but the offense isn’t there. These girls are learning how to shoot properly for the first time. The good thing is they are really willing to learn.” Steinle returns for her junior year at forward after being named to the Century League’s second team. Brunansky, at center, is a key element for the Knights. One of two seniors and the only senior returning starter, Brunansky will have to help motivate the team through some tough losses.
