Bell-Jeff Scratches 7-Year Playoff Itch

BURBANK — Quarterback Richard Szeptzcki completed six of nine passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bell-Jeff High to a 33-20 victory over Salesian in a Santa Fe League finale Saturday night at Burroughs High.
The win assured Bell-Jeff (6-4, 5-2 in league play) of its first playoff berth since 1987.
Wide receiver David Matekel caught three passes for 75 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown reception, to give the Guards a 7-0 lead. Szeptzcki ran one yard for a touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0.
Running back Gerardo Arroyo gained 52 yards in five carries and also made his seventh interception of the season. John Pawlik chalked up 67 yards and a touchdown in nine carries.
