ATASCADERO — Running backs Ryan McGaughey and Josh Brown combined for 270 yards to lead Atascadero High’s 25-6 upset of Oak Park in a Southern Section Division IX quarterfinal-round playoff game Friday night.
Atascadero (8-4), which finished second in the Los Padres League, marched 71 yards in seven plays after the opening kickoff and scored on a 24-yard run by McGaughey, who finished with 161 yards and two touchdowns in 25 carries. Brown rushed for 109 yards in 16 carries.
Oak Park (10-2), the Tri-Valley League champion, appeared to get the break it needed midway through the first quarter when defensive back Mike Waters recovered a fumble at the Greyhound 35. But the possession ended after four plays.
The Greyhounds (8-4) led, 18-0, at halftime.
Oak Park’s lone score came on a 75-yard pass play from quarterback Ron Allen to receiver Eric Ruhle with 3:08 remaining.
