Birmingham High linebacker Marvin Powell, who suffered a neck injury last weekend, is expected to play in the City Section 3-A Division championship game against Bell at Gardena High.
Powell, who was hospitalized with a sprained neck after last week’s semifinal victory over Wilson, practiced lightly Monday.
“I should be OK by Friday,” Powell said.
Girls’ Basketball
Anna Celaya scored 29 points, including six three-point baskets, to lead North Hollywood High (2-0) to a 56-53 nonleague win over Notre Dame on Monday at North Hollywood.
Celaya, who was 10 of 15 shooting, made six of nine three-point attempts. Maggie Dixon scored 16 points for Notre Dame (4-1).
In another girls’ game, Clanci Lehman scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Village Christian to a 65-25 nonleague win over host Burbank.
Boys’ Basketball
Washington 64, Grant 52--Ronald Patterson scored 24 points in a first-round loss in the Thousand Oaks tournament.
