Coach: Bob Chavez (second year).
1993-94: 17-4-5, 6-2-2 in South Coast League; lost in second round of Division II playoffs to Esperanza, 4-3, in overtime.
Key returners: Tyler Bargiel, defender, Sr.; Wade Fraser, midfielder, So.; Joe Kaplan, forward, Sr.; Deiter Segura, forward, Sr.; Brent Stringham, midfielder, Jr.; Sean Taeger, keeper, Sr.; Andy Valderrama, midfielder, So.; Jason Viloria, defender, Sr.; Jeff Wright, defender, Sr.
Key newcomers: Ryan Conzelman, midfielder, Jr.; Ryan Kenyon, midfielder, Fr.; Patrick O’Brien, defender, So.
Outlook: Ricky Le, a Times’ All-County first-team midfielder, has graduated, but Chavez returns four starters and nine lettermen from a talented 1993 team. El Toro, which moves from the South Coast to the Sea View League, might not have as much talent as Santa Margarita, but it could have more depth, especially on defense. O’Brien, a transfer from Santa Margarita, could be a key. “He’s a strong player with plenty of speed,” Chavez said. Segura and Karlan bring scoring punch up front.
