Intel Announces New Chip Plant: Intel Corp. said officially that it will build what is likely to become the world’s most expensive computer chip factory in Hillsboro, Ore. Last summer, the company raised expectations that the plant would be built there after receiving a tax break from Washington County for it. The first phase of construction will cost $565 million, and completion is scheduled for 1997, the company said. A second phase is expected to bring its total cost to $2.2 billion.
