COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress’ Late Rally Beats Mt. San Antonio

Cypress rallied from a six-point second-half deficit to beat Mt. San Antonio, 68-62, in a quarterfinal of the Riverside men’s basketball tournament Thursday.
Cypress went on a 14-2 run in the final 6 minutes 6 seconds. Jeff Cummins’ driving layup with 1:30 left put the Chargers (9-2) ahead, 64-62. Gil Gonzales made four free throws in the final 15 seconds for Cypress. Gonzales scored 14 of his game-high 21 in the second half for Cypress, which was behind at the half, 34-29.
Cypress plays in one semifinal at 7 tonight.
In another Riverside tournament game:
Imperial Valley 91, Fullerton 55--Marcus Austin scored 22 points for Fullerton (7-5) in consolation play.
In first round of the Los Angeles Valley women’s basketball tournament:
Cypress 83, Sacramento 68--Sara Works had 35 points and 10 rebounds to lift Cypress (8-3) into the tournament semifinals.
