GARDEN GROVE — A chlorine spill at Rancho Alamitos High School early Wednesday caused minor respiratory problems for a school employee but no serious injuries, firefighters said.
A worker repairing a 150-pound steel cylinder filled with chlorine gas in a pool chemical storage area discovered the leak about 8:30 a.m. and alerted authorities. About 20 firefighters took about an hour and a half to control the leak in the 11300 block of Dale Street.
The school employee, maintenance worker Stanford Kramer, was taken to a physician after suffering minor respiratory problems, firefighters said. Students were in school but none were evacuated.
The cause of the leak is still under investigation, but firefighters believe it was a malfunction in the cylinder.
