PIT STOP: Gov. Pete Wilson is making a quick stop in Burbank today to sign a bill funding the county’s 19 probation camps. . . . But he won’t be here for long. After appearing at the signing ceremony in a Burbank Airport hangar with various law enforcement officials and posing for photos, the governor will depart.
ENVELOPE PLEASE: There he goes, Mr. California Legislator of the year (B5). . . . The annual California Journal ranking of state lawmakers--from a poll taken of Sacramento insiders--is out and the winner is Assemblyman James E. Rogan (R-Glendale). Ranking last among Assembly locals was William J. “Pete” Knight (R-Palmdale).
SOCIAL NOTE: French President Jacques Chirac (A6) was honored Thursday night at a state dinner. The local angle? Several guests have strong Valley ties. . . . Disney CEO Michael Eisner was there with his wife, Jane, as was Rep. Howard L. Berman (D-Panorama City) and wife Janis.
DOUBLEHEADER: Burbank’s Municipal Court building was the scene Thursday of a media crush worthy of the O.J. or Menendez cases. Well--almost. . . . Still, there was a lot of excitement, what with all the TV crews and other reporters on hand for both the Salle Dumm preliminary hearing and the arraignment of Amber Bray and Jeffrey Ayers. . . . Dumm is charged with having sex with a high school football player; Bray and Ayers are charged with killing Bray’s mother for insurance money. Said one court employee: “It’s never this exciting.”
