Police are investigating the cause of a small fire Tuesday night at a Garden Grove restaurant owned by Westminster Councilman Tony Lam, officials said Wednesday.
Capt. Bill Dumas of the Garden Grove Fire Department said flames broke out about 11:15 p.m. behind Lam’s Vien Dong Restaurant on Westminster Avenue after the establishment had closed for the night.
The fire was seen by a nearby resident, who doused the flames with water from a hose and called the Fire Department, said Lam’s wife, Hop. The fire was extinguished before it caused any serious damage, she said.
Dumas would not say if officials think an arsonist was involved.
“The entire incident is under investigation,” he said. “It is considered suspicious at this point.”
Lam, whose restaurant specializes in northern Vietnamese fare, could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
