Saddleback Hangs On in Softball

Treva Whitaker’s run-scoring double in the third inning proved to be the difference for Saddleback, which beat San Bernardino Valley, 2-1, in a nonconference softball game Thursday at Saddleback.
Whitaker drove in the Gauchos’ second run of the inning for a 2-0 led. San Bernardino scored a run in the fifth.
Sara Petrella (1-1), who got the victory in relief, struck out five for Saddleback (5-2).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 9, Fullerton 0--Saddleback, the defending state champions, did not lose a set. Freshman Erik Lundblad won, 6-0, 6-0, in singles, then teamed with freshman Hanley Ernst and won, 6-0, 6-0, in doubles.
